Voters in the upper Midwest and Great Plains states chose second Amendment friendly candidates in elections across the region Tuesday night, based on data from Fox News.
While not all election results were good news voters in many regions seemed to reject big government and choose liberty. While the results of the Presidential election may not be known until late Wednesday or later, some Congressional and Senate races are showing encouraging results.
In Indiana, the 5th congressional district covering the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, Republican candidate Victoria Spartz held a strong lead early Wednesday morning, This was an open seat after Rep. Susan Brooks announced her retirement and was hoped to be a pickup for the Democrats as the district had been trending more strongly blue in recent elections.
Michigan’s Senate seat appears to be ready to flip as Sen. Gary Peters appears to be losing his seat to John James with 89 percent of the vote counted so far.
Michigan’s 11th district appears to be ready to flip as well with Republican challenger Eric Esshaki holding a comfortable lead over Haley Stevens. The 11th district is just west of Detroit and includes a large portion of Detroit’s suburbs.
Iowa’s 1st congressional district turned red with challenger Ashley Hinson defeating Democratic incumbent Abby Finkenauer. The 1st district is the Northwestern corner of the state. While the 2nd district, the Southeastern quadrant of the state Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks squeaked by Rita Hart by just over 200 votes with almost 400,000 votes cast.
In Illinois, the 14th district shows challenger Jim Oberweis defeating incumbent Democrat Lauren Underwood. That district encompasses a large suburban area west and north of Chicago.
Finally, in Minnesota, the 7th congressional district Republican Michelle Fischbach easily defeated Democratic incumbent Collin Peterson. In a race with over 300,000 votes cast Fischbach led by almost 50,000 votes when the counting was finished. The Minnesota 7th District encompasses most of the western portion of the state.
