The Second Amendment Foundation has announced the recipient of this year’s “Ray Carter Blogger of the Year” award is the Rev. Kenn Blanchard, well-known as the “Black Man with a Gun.”
The award is named in honor of the late Ray Carter, a SAF employee and veteran gun rights activist who passed away in May 2016 following a two-year battle with cancer. Carter was the founder of Washington CeaseFear, a pro-rights grassroots movement established as a counter effort to the so-called “Ceasefire” organizations, which are gun prohibitionist lobbying groups.
Carter also worked with the Pink Pistols, a gay gun rights organization, and had earlier been involved with Seattle’s Pride Parade. He also was an annual participant and key figure in the annual “Blogorado” gathering of bloggers, held in Colorado.
“Ray Carter was an activist’s activist, a well-respected member of the blogosphere and Second Amendment community, and we’re delighted to name another highly respected blogger and rights activists as the 2020 recipient of this award,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “Kenn is one of those larger-than-life figures whose dedication to the gun rights movement is matched by his energetic efforts to bring new gun owners into the firearms community, the kind of effort Ray Carter championed.”
Blanchard is an ordained Baptist minister and he has testified in support of Second Amendment rights before legislatures in Maryland, Michigan, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. A Marine Corps veteran, he is a former CIA firearms instructor and was a federal peace officer. He has authored several books. He has also been a podcaster since 2007.
“It is an extreme honor to accept the Ray Carter blogger award from the Second Amendment Foundation,” Blanchard said. “ The Black Man With A Gun website has been making a difference since 2000. This past year I have been focusing on encouraging and leading new gun owners through it and our podcast. I love you guys. It’s nice to be recognized for something that I love.”
