The Associated Press and Fox News are reporting that recreational shooting is being “temporarily prohibited” in three national forests in Arizona in an effort to reduce the wildfire threat.
These closures will continue through to July 31 or until rescinded.
The three forests involved in this action are the Coronado, Prescott and Tonto national forests. All three forests reportedly have large amounts of dry grasses that could easily fuel a wildfire. Ironically, according to the report, those grasses are the result of lots of rain over the winter.
All three forests have a history of fire problems related to recreational shooting. In recent weeks, hundreds of acres have been burned as a result of what appears to have been recreational shooting.
