Proposes executive order designating militia rifles
In an email to the editor, attorney, author and former militia officer, Lenden Eakin proposes that the President issue an Executive Order to specify rifles for Americans to own for “Militia purposes.” The Order could cite the Constitution and the United States Code for its basis and authority.
According to Eakin: “The U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly found that the Second Amendment protects civilian ownership of firearms for Militia purposes, but has not defined those purposes. Federal courts of appeal have upheld “Assault Weapons” bans without respecting militia purposes (as recently as the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals case involving Maryland ban on so-called assault weapons that are semi-automatics. The President, as Commander in Chief of the Militia under the Constitution, has full authority to designate the arms for people to bear in order to achieve Militia purposes.”
Mr. Eakin has practiced law for over 30 years, has experience as a militia officer (National Guard and State Defense Force) and wrote the book Showdown: The Looming Crisis Over Gun Control (Mascot Books).
He also says: “An Executive Order like this could have a significant impact on the litigation to challenge Assault Weapons Bans currently making its way through the Courts. It would help the challengers.”

Hollywood liberals are firearms hypocrites
Dear Editor:
The recent Oscars broadcast gave us further evidence that the Hollywood crowd are out and out hypocrites when it comes to the Second Amendment, and maybe the First as well.
They pontificate on the evils of firearms while guarded day and night by hired bodyguards while they take pot shots at the President and the People who elected him, many of them law-abiding gunowners.
They also attack the right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the United States constitution while making films and tons and tons of money by making films that glorify both firearms and violent criminals. No wonder there is so much violence among young people today fed a steady diet of gun violence on television and in the movies.
Then, when one of their members such as Actor James Woods expresses support for the Second Amendment, they turn on him and subject him to ridicule, even at events like the so-called collegiate Oscar event.

Alarmed by Schumer’s new power in the Capitol
Dear Editor:
For many years, Charles Schumer of New York has been a leading opponent of the right of American civilians to own guns for their personal protection and sporting purposes for many years. All the while he has professed to support the Second Amendment, but I doubt that he reads the Constitution the way I and millions of other Americans do.
He led the anti-gun crowd while he was in the House of Representatives and then as a regular member of the Senate body and the Judiciary Committee.
Now he is the Minority Leader of the Senate, which gives him an even bigger pulpit and more power within the Senate to advance the anti-gun cause and to block Cabinet appointees he doesn’t like or strangle pro-gun legislation by amendment and parliamentary tricks. We have a lot to worry about.
Since I live in New York State and never voted for Schumer, I’d appreciate you not printing my name or town if you print my letter.
Sincerely
Anonymous New Yorker
