60-vote rule originated with Reid’s Democrats
Dear Editor:
Funny how things work out, or so it seems. Back a couple of years or so ago, when the Democrats controlled the US Senate, Harry Reid and Company pushed through this 60 vote “cloture vote” rule change.
Recently, it seemed to have taken a large bite out of their posterior. Strange how things sometimes work out, isn’t it?

Can Republicans reach out to minorities
Dear Editor:
As you can see by the headline in the clipping from the June 8 front page of the Navaho-Hopi Observer, a newspaper in Arizona, the Democrats are pulling out all the stops just as I mentioned in a previous letter.
I hope someone can get Trump to pay a visit just as Bill Clinton and Bernie Sanders did and got such Page 1 treatment, as the Native American vote can make a difference.
I had to tell the Republican Club here the story of JFK, when he came in 1960 and told the Navaho Nation that they would receive whatever they wanted in exchange for their vote. Navaho members were too young to remember but they did check and find I was correct.
The present day Republican Party may be obsolete but as Trump is showing that party leaders have been sitting on their butts with regard to speaking with and listening to minorities. Trump is a populist and if successful in 2016, could make a new Republican Party.
The way America is going under the Progressive’s agenda, I don’t know if we still have a population that can or will stop the Clinton madness.
These are scary times, indeed.

Nevada Sheriff’s letter opposes ballot Question 1
Share with TGM readers:
As sheriff of Washoe County, I am committed to doing everything in my power to protect your families, your property and your community. I am equally committed to protecting your rights and freedoms as citizens of Nevada and the United States. One of my fundamental principles and promises to the citizens of this county is not to support any legislation that would infringe upon or restrict our Second Amendment rights.
In that light, I would like to express my concerns about Gun Control Question 1, which is on the ballot for November’s election. Largely bought and paid for by billionaire gun control advocate Michael Bloomberg, I believe Question 1 will do absolutely nothing to stop criminals while criminalizing the commonplace activities of many Nevada gun owners.
Armed with the facts, I am convinced Nevadans will defeat this anti-freedom measure

EDITOR’S NOTE: Sheriff Mike Haley, Sheriff Allen’s predecessor, wrote to the Reno Gazette-Journal to express his support for the Question 1 initiative.
