Smart gun crowd praises Obama plan
While many Americans, including readers of TheGunMag, were less than impressed with President Obama’s gun control plans announced on Jan. 5, promoters of smart guns (user recognition technology) were delighted.
“With the support of the White House behind them, these innovators can pursue building companies that not only create products consumers want but also make a significant social impact by saving lives,” Margot Hirsch, president of the Smart Tech Challenges Foundation, said in an Internet press release, quoting the president:
“If a child can’t open a bottle of aspirin, we should make sure that they can’t pull the trigger on a gun.”
After Obama spoke, Hirsch excitedly reported that they were delighted by his call for federal funding to assist the private sector in pursuit of the smart gun solution.
Hillary promises to unlock Area 51
Hillary Clinton may seem spacey to some voters, but the Star Trek-Star Wars crowd could make her a winner.
If elected president, Clinton, the Democrat front-runner for president, told reporter Daymond Steer of New Hampshire’s The Conway Daily Sun that she will investigate Area 51 and UFO’s.
“Yes, I’m going to get down to the bottom of it,” Clinton told Steer enthusiastically, Mediaite reports.
Not only did her husband, President Bill Clinton, comment in 2014 that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if we’ve already been visited by aliens, but Hillary agreed by adding, “I think we may have been [visited already]. We don’t know for sure.”
According to Mediaite and Newsmax.com, Hillary’s campaign manager John Podesta is also a huge proponent of UFOlogy.
“He has made me personally pledge we are going to get the information out,” she said. “One way or another. Maybe we could have, like, a task force to go to Area 51.”
Recent polls find a pro-gun public
A recent CNN/ORC poll suggests the American public is siding with pro-gun arguments. The survey found a majority (52 percent) of those polled oppose tighter gun laws. And a Washington Post/ABC News poll found 53 percent are against the assault weapons ban the White House has endorsed.
It will be interesting to see the results of polling following President Obama’s explanation of his gun control agenda and his scheduled televised “Town Hall” meeting on the gun issue. Next up will be his State of the Union address, which in all likelihood will also focus on guns.
Soldier defends self from armed robber
No shots were fired, but again a firearm saved the day.
A soldier was staying at a hotel in Colorado Springs, CO, when a man came up to his door and asked to check the plumbing.
The soldier, who was not identified in the KSHB news report, let the man into his room, but once inside, the man drew a knife and attempted to rob him. The soldier responded by retrieving a gun and forcing the criminal to the ground, where he was held until police arrived.
Is Canada’s gun registry returning?
According to a Toronto Sun columnist, one of the key Canadian federal Liberals’ campaign promises in the recent election was to reintroduce a long-gun registry.
“Of course they didn’t call it a registry. Rather, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau proposed making gun sellers file records of every sale—purchaser’s name and personal information, model of gun, serial number and so on.”
It looks like a registry by another name.
Armed homeowner saves Christmas
Early on the morning of Christmas Eve, Jason Klein and his family were asleep in their Newark, OH, home, when Klein was awakened by a suspicious noise.
According to WBNS in Columbus, Klein retrieved a .40-caliber handgun and went over to a sliding door in his bedroom that goes out onto a deck in order to investigate. When Klein opened the door he came upon a burglar attempting to break into the house. Klein held the would-be thief at gun-point until police could arrive.
Speaking with a local news outlet, Klein shared his thoughts that the burglar may have been after the Christmas presents for the six children and two grandchildren in their family that were placed under a well-lit Christmas tree. Klein went on to tell reporters, “I think the guy was either going to try to steal something or come in and hurt my family… Maybe he won’t rob somebody else next time.”
Herrin scores CMP rifle, pistol wins
Unusually warm and inviting weather blanketed the competitors on the firing lines of Talladega Marksmanship Park as the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) inaugural Talladega 600 was fired Dec. 8 through Dec. 13 by a group of 270 competitors. The event held for all ages and skill levels featured a variety of firearm matches, including pistol, rifle and even shotgun opportunities.
Eric Herrin was one of the big winners at the Inaugural event—earning first place overall in the As-Issued 1911, Military & Police Pistol and EIC Aggregate matches. He also became a member of the Congressional 30 (mirrored off of the National Match President’s 100 event) as one of the Top 30 competitors. Along with these accomplishments, Herrin landed in second place in the EIC Pistol Match and in the top percentage of the EIC Rifle event—among other impressive finishes during the week.
The Talladega 600 included pistol, smallbore and highpower CMP rifle, and shotgun events. For complete results, visit the website: thecmp.org.
