Winchester Ammunition has introduced a new shotshell load for predators that ups the odds of hitting a moving animal such as a coyote. The new Varmint X load is designed with Winchester’s Shot-Lok Technology, which features a liquid gel that surrounds pellets in the shot cup and then hardens. The result is a shot charge that leaves the barrel almost perfectly round. Once discharged, the hardened resin fractures but the shot column retains a tight pattern for long range effectiveness. The new Varmint X shotgun load will be offered in 3-inch magnums with 1½ ounces of plated BBs that reportedly leave the muzzle at 1,300 fps. The shot charge retains enough energy at 40 yards for up to 12 inches of penetration and plenty of knockdown power.
