Oregon Second Amendment activists are preparing for a tough fight leading up to next month’s election, with the Oregon Firearms Federation acknowledging the battle over Ballot Measure 114 “is very close” in a recent email blast to members and supporters.
Measure 114 is one of the most restrictive gun control initiatives ever placed on a ballot. It will require permits to purchase firearms, training to own firearms—a problem since facilities to accommodate such training are few and far between in the Beaver State, and law enforcement agencies are apparently not prepared to handle the demand—and other restrictions.
According to a recent notice from OFF, “If this passes we will face a long time and a lot of money to defeat it in court.”
“Make no mistake, it will be defeated,” says OFF. “The proponents know it, the Secretary of State knows it, and the media knows it. But why should they care? When it comes time to fight it, we get to pay for our lawyers and their lawyers. So please get your friends and family to fill out those ballots and bring them to a ‘secure’ drop box or directly to your elections office. Do NOT assume the Post Office will deliver them.”
“Ballots are arriving,” OFF’s Kevin Starrett confirmed. “You may be disgusted, you may be frustrated, but you must vote.”
Also on the ballot next month are the elections for governor and positions in the state legislature. The Oregon Voter’s Guide may be read here.
