The Norfolk, VA City Council is set to “consider a proposal to ban guns in city buildings, parks and recreation centers and at city-permitted events,” according to the Virginian Pilot, and buried in the story is a line that should alarm gun owners across the country concerned about this fall’s elections.
The council may vote on the proposal Tuesday, according to the newspaper, but Mayor Kenny Alexander reportedly said the process may slow down so the public can respond and comment. It’s a likely assumption, since the ordinance has teeth.
Violators would face up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500, the newspaper said.
But
several paragraphs into the story, the newspaper notes, “The bill was adopted earlier this year by the General
Assembly, part of a swath of gun
legislation that
was a high priority for Democrats after they seized control of the statehouse
for the first time in nearly two decades.”
Second Amendment activists have spent the past several months reminding one
another that this fall’s elections for Congress and the White House could turn
the entire country into Virginia. And Democrat nominee Joe Biden has already
released his gun control plans, which were detailed in Ammoland.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Biden did not specifically refer to his gun control agenda during his acceptance speech. The entire plan spans more than 3,400 words, and may be read here.
