Nearly two-thirds of likely U.S. voters think the country is heading in the wrong direction, while only 34 percent believe the nation is on the right track, according to a new survey by Rasmussen Reports.
The revelation comes just hours before Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to debate former President Donald Trump in what could be a pivotal showdown between the two as they race for the White House in November.
Harris must take responsibility for the dismal outlook, since she’s been second-in-command of the Joe Biden administration for the past 3 ½ years. With Biden bowing out a month ago, Harris is figuratively left holding the bag for what many Americans believe has been a failed, and at times disastrous, presidency under the Delaware Democrat.
Following his terrible performance in a June debate against Trump, the president was allegedly pressured to bow out of the 2024 campaign rather than risk taking many Democrats with him in what many in his own party predicted would be a “down vote debacle.”
According to Rasmussen, only 34 percent of survey respondents think the country is on the right path. Sixty-one percent say the U.S. is going in the wrong direction. The survey was conducted Sept. 1-5 from, among 1,806 likely voters.
Where Biden is concerned, the news remains bad in his final months in office. Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows 44 percent of likely voters approve of his job performance while 55 percent do not. Breaking down the numbers, it gets even worse for the president, with only 22 percent strongly approving of his job performance and 47 percent strongly disapproving. This gives Biden an approval index rating of -25 .
According to critics, Biden has been a disaster as president, reigning over high inflation, reducing energy production, weaponizing federal agencies against gun owners, the horrendous withdrawal from Afghanistan which left a huge arsenal of U.S. weapons, a failed border policy and his visible physical and mental decline since taking office, while his staff and even Harris allegedly covered up for him.
Biden’s supporters have been just as adamant about his administration being successful, claiming the border is secure, the economy isn’t so bad, and crime is showing some decline.
