Prosecutor lets raucous WA attorneys off hook
When the prosecuting attorney in Kitsap County, WA, declined to charge a bunch of lawyers with assorted offenses following a raucous party that included violating a burn ban, citizens around the Evergreen State accused the prosecutor of letting fellow attorneys off the hook.
The wild party was held in Olalla in mid-August and involved members of the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association. Dubbed “LawyerPalooza,” the gathering was attended by about 70 people. At least, that’s the estimate when a sheriff’s deputy arrived, only to be called “vulgar names,” according to the Associated Press.
The report also said one attorney prevented another person at the party from putting out a bonfire, which was prohibited under a summer burn ban that had been imposed due to dry conditions.
Apparently the landowner was not at the party, so a citation on the burn ban was not issued, the Associated Press reported.
But public reaction was overwhelmingly negative when Deputy Prosecutor Chad Enright explained that the Constitution “allows people to be obnoxious.”
Bloomberg team forms Hollywood committee
Gun control billionaire-in-chief Michael Bloomberg has more than invaded Hollywood. One of the groups he is funding – Everytown for Gun Safety — has has formed a committee of Hollywood figures that will push various gun control proposals, according to Variety. It’s called the Everytown Creative Council, which will be headed by Julianne Moore.
“As American citizens, we are shocked and saddened by the loss of life, and the daily increase of gun violence in our beautiful country,” Moore said in a statement. “We do not believe that the Second Amendment and gun safety are mutually exclusive ideas, and as a creative community, we will do everything we can to support the safety of our fellow Americans, and galvanize more to join us in this movement.”
According to the report, the Everytown Creative Council will “use its collective reach and cultural influence to support common-sense solutions proven to save lives from the gun violence that claims 88 American lives every day and injures hundreds more,” the organization said in a statement.
The Creative Council also includes J.J. Abrams, Jessica Chastain, Lee Daniels, Ron Howard, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael J. Fox, Seth MacFarlane, Reese Witherspoon and Jeff Bridges, among others.
Satirical video glorifies Pop Tart gun violence
Music videos that glorify shooting people and violence are the worst, right? Pop culture is a major influencer of human behavior, so let’s face it: The world doesn’t need another gangster video that makes senseless killing look cool.
Then again, there’s a gangster video that makes senseless killing look cool, if such a thing is possible, and it’s great. The conservative/libertarian website believes it’s so great you should probably watch it and then share it.
Why is it so great? Because it’s made by libertarian satirist Remy, and it celebrates all the violence you can do using the many devices that get kids kicked out of school. You know, stuff like water pistols, Nerf guns, pistol-pointed index fingers, drawings and — deadliest of all — half-eaten Pop Tarts that have been nibbled into the shapes of firearms.
The school teachers and principals that toss kids out of school for having such stuff probably won’t get the humor of the video, but if you’re so curious you can find it on PersonLiberty.com. It was posted on that site on Sept. 30.
