A report at DNYUZ News says nearly 200 Minneapolis, Minn., police officers have “applied to leave the Minneapolis Police Department because of what they describe as post-traumatic stress” in the aftermath of the George Floyd incident.
Floyd was a black man who died after a Minneapolis officer pressed on his neck for some 8 minutes, holding him down by a knee. Four officers involved in that incident were fired and charged with felony crimes.
According to the report, some 65 officers have already left the department, more than the traditional attrition rate of 45 officers. Dozens of other officers, the report said, have taken temporary leaves since the Floyd incident.
One veteran officer was quoted in the story noting that morale is “lower than they have ever experienced.”
There has also been an uptick in crime in several major cities where police have been under fire from activists ostensibly demonstrating against police brutality. However, many of those protests have been allegedly co-opted by violent troublemakers who have been vandalizing and looting businesses.
