A coalition of anti-gun groups is launching a protest against National Rifle Association lobbyists at noon Thursday in Washington, D.C., and the effort will include the hand-delivery of “post-mortem photos” of Brishell Jones, one of the victims of the infamous March 2010 South Capitol Street massacre in Washington, TGM has learned.
“The goal,” according to a press release from Naomi Seligman Consulting, “is to drag the lobbyists out of the shadows where they prefer to operate and expose exactly how the National Rifle Association subverts democracy.”
The effort comes one week before the NRA begins its annual convention in Houston, TX. It will involve representatives from Public Campaign, Occupy the NRA, CREDO, Every Child Matters, Moveon, United For Change, USA, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, The Other 98%, and We Act Radio, the press release said.
Billed as a “March on NRA Lobbyists,” the event also will feature the unveiling of a new anti-NRA artwork by Shepard Fairey, who produced an image of Barack Obama for the 2008 presidential campaign.
Timing of the protest seemed more than coincidental with a joint session of two House Oversight subcommittees that is probing the Department of Homeland Security’s huge procurement of ammunition. Some might see the protest as a subterfuge to draw news attention away from the hearing, which should be available via live streaming here.
The protest is being moderated by Cliff Schecter, a Democrat consultant. Among his clients, according to Wikipedia, is the anti-gun Mayors Against Illegal Guns. He was a consultant for the 1996 Clinton campaign, and has consulted the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Ohio House Democratic Caucus in the 2008 campaign cycle, Wikipedia said.
