UPDATE: Did Gun Owners of America ‘Compromise’ With Sasse Endorsement?

Some Nebraskans have a difficult choice in front of them this Tuesday in the Republican primary for United States Senate.
The winner could likely join one of 100 votes to affirm or deny Second Amendment Rights to Americans all over the country.
A recent Nebraska Watchdog article and subsequent radio interview indicate the candidate most friendly and candid toward Second Amendment gun rights to be Shane Osborn, the former Nebraska State Treasurer and veteran navy pilot.
Osborn holds a concealed carry permit and is a lifetime member of the NRA.
The campaign recently released a short internet video of Mr. Osborn’s wife, Stacy, shooting some targets and stating how much gun rights mean to her and her husband.
“Shane understands the important of our liberties, as he’s had his freedom taken away.”
Mrs. Osborn references an incident in 2001 where Shane Osborn was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for safely crash landing his Ep-3E when a Chinese fighter jet rammed the Navy airplane. Osborn and his crew were held captive and interrogated for 12 days by Chinese officials.
Other candidates in the race have left some big question marks as to where they stand. According to the Nebraska Watchdog, the Sasse campaign flat out refused to comment on the issue, something that will probably give pause to most gun rights supporters.
The only candidate that didn’t leave much question on the matter was Osborn.
Legislation such as national concealed carry reciprocity will likely now occupy a larger spotlight now that the Supreme Court has denied cert to Drake v. Jerejian, a case many analysts deemed ‘ripe’ for the court to take up and give guidance to lower courts on the issue of carry.
As the US Senate has the important task of confirming or rejecting presidential appointments to the federal and Supreme Court bench, the very judicial nominees that would determine the constitutionality of a national reciprocity law could be up for confirmation in the last two years of Barack Obama’s term. Mr. Osborn or one of the other candidates in this race could end up being the deciding vote on such a confirmation.
