A national grassroots gun rights organization has launched a national radio advertising campaign, taking the fight to Capitol Hill anti-gunners.
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is on full offense this week with its campaign on the Salem Radio Network and Westwood One.
According to CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “We plan on reaching almost 8 million listeners on more than 700 radio stations from coast to coast.”
The radio message is the audio portion of a television advertisement that ran on more than a dozen networks during March. According to Ammoland, the organization, with an estimated 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, is taking on the likes of Senators Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, author of H.R. 127, an extremist gun control measure that calls for licensing and registration, mandatory psych evaluations of gun buyers, and more.
“Our radio campaign will be heard nationally on the Hugh Hewitt show, Sebastian Gorka’s program and other syndicated broadcasts hosted by Larry Elder, Lars Larson, Dan Bongino and Fox News with Brian Kilmeade,” Gottlieb said in a news release. “The Citizens Committee has expanded its outreach activities with this new national threat to our gun rights already underway. We’re rolling up our sleeves and stepping into the lead in this fight.”
Last month, the House passed two gun control bills, H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446—both concerning background checks—and sent them to the Senate. Now, the gun prohibition lobby is putting pressure on Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader, to take up both measures. But with the 50-50 split in the Senate, and the potential for some Democrats to defect on any gun control legislation, that may not happen right away.
Two recent mass shooting incidents, in Georgia and Colorado, propelled gun control back into the spotlight, and brought calls from Joe Biden for congressional action. He wants a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and there have been hints from the White House he may be considering some form of executive action.
Democrats, said Gottlieb, “think now is the time to destroy the Second Amendment and turn a right into a privilege. We are not going to let that happen, so we’re launching a second front to block their agenda.”
He said the television campaign has already reached more than 26 million viewers, “and now we’re reaching out via the radio airwaves with the most popular national radio hosts on the air today.”
“The fight has commenced,” Gottlieb declared, “and we are on the front lines.”
