The California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA), the state’s National Rifle Association affiliate, announced recently that it had nominated five-time Olympic shotgunning medalist Kim Rhode to be a member of its honorary board of directors.
Rhode, 36, is an outspoken leader in the shooting sports and a strong advocate for the Second Amendment, the CRPA announcement said. She has stood in times of crisis for the cause, as seen recently following the tragic events of the San Bernardino massacre.
“My heart goes out to the victims and their families; it is terrible,” Rhode said in a telephone interview. “But my views on gun control are that I support the Second Amendment and the right to be able to shoot and to protect your family. If anything, what has happened makes me have more of a reason to carry.”
“Kim’s expertise in competitive shooting is an outstanding addition to our Board as an Honorary Board Member and to the organization as we advance our shooting, training and education programs throughout the state,” stated Rick Travis, CRPA Programs Director. “Her tireless efforts as a leader of the shooting sports community are unmatched in her discipline. She continues to foster her love of the sport in everyone she meets.”
Rhode was the flagbearer of the US team at the Pan Am Games in Toronto this past summer and is in a strong position to qualify for what would be her sixth consecutive Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this year.
Honorary board members of CRPA serve in an advisory capacity, bringing their expertise and influence to the mission of the organization. They lend their voice to the organization without a vote on the board.
