If one picture is worth a 1,000 words, a political cartoon such as this one by Lisa Benson, syndicated to newspapers around the nation by the Washington Post Writers Group, must be worth at least 2,000 words.
It was even published by some newspapers that normally support almost every new gun control proposal. This suggests that some editors may now understand Benson’s message, and have shared it with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of readers. The ticking time bomb figure was labeled “Joker” which might have been more readable when the cartoon was print in black and white.
In either case, the point is well made that the nation doesn’t have a gun problem as much as it has a mental health problem. Until we focus on how to prevent maniacs and killers from obtaining their weapons of mayhem, we are unlikely to find a solution.
