An armed man who tried to rob a gas station in the city of Niagara Falls, NY, in May had to contend with more than the police who were dispatched to apprehend him.
According to the Buffalo News, wearing a camouflage hoodie, sunglasses and a mask over the lower part of his face, he first had to contend with the station attendant and a friend who were present when he first flashed his gun about 6 p.m. and demanded money from the cash register. They eluded him and locked themselves in an employee restroom.
Police who dispatched because of a 9-1-1 call, eventually captured the 36-year-old man, but not until after he had run through a gamut of friends and neighbors.
When he couldn’t open the cash register, he fled on a bicycle. First he had to dodge bricks thrown at him by a neighbor of the station. Then, then a friend of the station attendant driving a cab pursued the escaping robber and pinned him against curbside bushes for period and he was again pelted with bricks. At that point he threatened the brick-pitcher with his gun and, abandoning the bike, ran down the street.
The police eventually caught up with the suspect at another location, but the police report did not indicate whether he was out of breath. He now faces charges of second-degree attempted robbery and second-degree menacing.
