Dave Kopp, founding president and chief lobbyist for the Arizona Citizens Defense League, and a frequent speaker at the Gun Rights Policy Conference, passed away Aug. 24 following a 12-year battle with cancer.
According to a notice posted on the AzCDL Facebook page, “Despite his ongoing illness, Dave worked tirelessly in the trenches of managing an organization and leading the charge at the Legislature, protecting our freedom. In a profile in courage, he kept his illness private so as not to have his struggle interfere with that for freedom.”
Kopp stepped down from the organization’s presidency several months ago, and was quickly named “President Emeritus.” He was succeeded by Michael Gibbs, with longtime activist and Gun Freedom Radio host Cheryl Todd elected vice president.
“Dave was also a founding member of the AzCDL Foundation, and he was extremely proud of the work the Foundation has done to bring FASTERSavesLives to Arizona,” the notice said.
