Mossberg has announced several new shotguns and rifles for 2025, just days ahead of the annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show where the firearms industry and media gets its first look, and it is quite a lineup.
For openers, the legendary company has announced the 590M® Mag-Fed Shotguns Professional Series, which offer, according to Mossberg, the “option of black or orange synthetic furniture (compact and Magpul® models available); Cerakote® protective finish on barrel, receiver, and magazine tube; and this groundbreaking 12-gauge, 2.75-inch platform is fed from the first production double-stacked magazine made for pump actions.”
Key Features of the 590M Pump-Action Shotgun Professional Series:
- 18.5-inch heavy-walled, cylinder bore barrel.
- Metal rear Optimized Ghost Ring and front fiber optic sights equipped with protective low-profile wings.
- Optic-ready receiver (RMSc footprint) which is covered by certain patents and patents pending. Simply remove the rear Optimized Ghost Ring sight for access to optic cut.
- Cerakote Tungsten metal exterior finish; a polymer-ceramic coating that provides superior corrosion and abrasion resistance.
- Two stock options utilizing stock spacer systems for customization. Magpul SGA® variable length-of-pull (LOP) stock adjusts in .5” increments from 12.25 – 14.25 inches. Compact stock features a one-inch insert for adjustment from 12 – 13 inches.
- Magpul MOE® forend offers an extended length with front and rear hand stops and M-LOK® slots for ease of adding accessories. The Compact models feature a traditional corncob-style forend.
- Drilled and tapped receiver.
- One ten-round detachable, double-stack magazine included. Accessory magazines available in 5, 10, 15, and 20 round capacities (sold separately).
- And like all 590 pump actions, the 590M has dual extractors; steel-to-steel lockup; improved top-mounted ambidextrous safety; and twin action bars.
Then comes the 590M Breacher Professional Series, described as “a 12-gauge, 2.75-inch pump action that is fed from the first production shotgun double-stack magazine.”
“The design of the 590M provides better balance and weight distribution and increased capacity while also allowing for the more compact conditions often required for breaching,” Mossberg said.
The smoothbore features a detachable magazine with integral stabilizing ribs designed to engage directly with notches in the receiver for a positive lockup. It has an all-steel magazine release button and 590M compatible magazines are available in 5, 10, 15, 20-round capacities.
Mossberg is also introducing the 590R and 590RM shotguns with what they call a Rotary Safety Selector. Four models are available, according to Mossberg literature, and they include two standard models and two mag-fed versions, which utilize what the company says are “the first production double-stack magazines for pump-action shotguns.”
These new models feature non-binding twin action bars, positive steel-to-steel lock-up and anti-jam elevator, the company said. They also boast dual extractors, a lightweight but rugged aluminum receiver that is drilled and tapped.
Key Features of the 590R and 590RM Pump-Action Shotguns:
- Ambidextrous, rotary safety selector with protective guard that can be reached without breaking grip.
- Mossberg-designed stock with five positions of adjustment (12 – 15.25 inches), interchangeable recoil pad, and 2-sided QD cups. The front QD cup is located on the mag cap.
- Stock/Base Adapter is compatible with other grip designs. Accepts most Mil-Spec stocks.
- Magpul® MOE+® pistol grip.
- Compact, ergonomically shaped forend with new 4-piece attachment that is user serviceable.
- 18.5-inch barrel with integrated heat shield that is removable (standard and stand-off versions).
- Front M-LOK® adapter with dual sided accessory mounting slots at 3 and 9 o’clock positions.
- Flat profile trigger with smooth, crisp break.
- Top Picatinny rail for ease of adding optics. Optional Mapgul MBUS® 3 sights on select models.
- Enlarged, beveled loading port with extended follower for ease of loading (590R only).
- Elongated bolt release.
- Electroplated internal and external receiver for durability and smoother finish.
Yet another entry, this one on the proven Model 500 platform, is a trio of Slugster pump-action models, in 12 gauge, 20 gauge and 410 bore. According to Mossberg, key features of the 500 pump-action platform include non-binding twin action bars; dual extractors; a positive steel-to-steel lock-up; anti-jam elevator; anodized aluminum receiver; and ambidextrous top-mounted safety with red “safety off” indicator.
“All three 500 Slugster models have adjustable rifle sights; 3-inch chambers with 5+1 total capacity; drilled and tapped receiver; classic black synthetic stock and forend; matte blue metal finish; and sling swivel studs,” Mossberg said. “The 12 and 20-gauge versions have 24-inch fully rifled barrels with a 1:36 twist rate and the 410 features a 20-inch cylinder bore barrel.”
In the rifle arena, Mossberg is introducing the Suppressor Ready Patriot™ Carbine Bolt-Action Rifles. They feature shorter barrel length which are optimized for use with suppressors. Forty-one states allow suppressors for hunting, and the Patriot Carbine platform seems to be the perfect match for adding a can.
According to Mossberg, key features include threaded barrels, compact barrel lengths of 16.25, 18, and 20-inches a choice of chamberings including .22-250 Rem., .308 Win. and 6.5mm Creedmoor; .450 Bushmaster and .350 Legend, 6.5mm PRC, .300 Win. Mag., and 7mm PRC. The rifle has a tough black synthetic stock with complementing matte blue metal finish.
The Mossberg Patriot action features a twin-lug push-feed mechanism machined from steel action which is fed from a flush polymer magazine. It has a free-floating carbon steel barrel with a thread cap, and it comes with a receiver-mounted Picatinny rail for adding optics. The rifle also features a user-adjustable (2-to-7 pounds) trigger.
