TGM Editor Dave Workman is now appearing in a short video on YouTube for American Handgunner and GUNS Magazine focusing on cleaning up after shooting on public land.
The video, which runs about 60 seconds, advises viewers to “pick up your brass” and “don’t leave a mess for the next guy.” He said getting into this habit will help improve the image of recreational shooters and hunters who use public land.
“Don’t leave a mess in the outdoors,” he stressed.
He also noted the importance of practicing firearms safety anytime one is shooting on public land.
Over the years, Workman has written about “slob shooters” who habitually bring trash out to state or federal lands all over the map, shoot it up and leave it. He has found gravel pits or once-pristine campsites which have been turned into eyesores with old computers, refrigerators, televisions and other garbage.
Prior to joining the staff at the old GUN WEEK, which transitioned to becoming a totally digital publication renamed The Gun Mag, Workman spent 21 years at Outdoor Empire Publishing, where he was senior editor at Fishing & Hunting News, and an award-winning outdoor writer. F&H News ceased publication several years ago. He now writes for American Handgunner online, and has a monthly column in the print edition of GUNS titled “2A Defense.”
Apparently the message hit a nerve because during the first 14 hours of its release, it was viewed at least 10,000 times.
The video was recorded with the help of his son, Rhett.
