Alabama lawmakers are reportedly considering more than a half-dozen gun control bills, and the group Bama Carry is alerting its members as it prepares for its ninth annual “Firearms Freedom Conference,” according to 1819 News.
The conference will be held at the Doster Center in Prattville this Saturday, Feb. 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
According to the report at 1819 News, the group has zeroed in on seven measures:
- HB20: Penalty for failure to inform when in possession and questioned- opposed
- HB36: To prohibit parts converting a firearm into a machine gun- opposed
- HB37: To provide for do not-sell-list- opposed
- HB48: To prohibit parts converting a firearm into a machine gun, with exceptions opposed
- HB49: Red Flag Protective Order Act- opposed
- HB72: To prohibit possession and transfer of assault weapons under certain circumstances- opposed
- HB74: Bumpstocks prohibited- opposed.
However, with lopsided control of both the House and Senate where Republicans vastly outnumber Democrats, the likelihood of any strict gun control bill making it to the governor’s desk seems slim. A search of bills at the legislature’s website indicates none of the measures have gained traction. Democrat Rep. Phillip Ensler is the sponsor of several of these bills. HB 72 and HB 74 are sponsored by Rep. Juandalynn Givan, (D-60th District).
1819 News is predicting more gun control bills will be introduced.
