Mossberg is one of the most famous names in the American firearms industry, known for producing workhorse shotguns and rifles, and the company has just announced its 2024 lineup of new products as the annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show looms in Las Vegas.
The new product selection is nothing short of overwhelming, with a new bolt-action rifle in .400 Legend, and shotguns in pump, semi-auto and double-barrel designs covering all the bases.
For openers, Mossberg is now chambering its Patriot bolt-action rifle in .400 Legend. Delivering impressive down-range penetration, accuracy and extremely low recoil, the .400 Legend is ideal for deer in states where straight-walled cartridges are legal and for a variety of big game including hogs and close cover bears, the company says. A walnut-stocked version and black synthetic stock option, both with 20-inch threaded barrels, are now available.
Based on Mossberg’s proven twin-lug push-feed machined-steel action, these classically-styled Patriot rifles are fed from a flush polymer magazine with a capacity of 4 + 1. The free-floating, 20-inch carbon steel barrels are threaded (11/16”-24 threads per inch) for ease of adding a suppressor or muzzle brake; include a protective thread cap; and have a 11-degree match crown. For ease of mounting a scope, the Patriot comes with weaver-styles bases. And all Patriot rifles feature Mossberg’s patented LBA™ (Lightning Bolt Action™) user-adjustable trigger with a 2 to 7-pound range of adjustment. Rounding out these full-featured rifles are streamlined and checkered bolt handles; spiral-fluted bolts; and sling swivel studs.
Introduced by Winchester Ammunition earlier this year, the 400 Legend is a straight-walled cartridge described as having energy equivalent to the 450 Bushmaster but with 20% less recoil; 20% more energy than the 30-30 Win; 25% more energy than the 350 Legend with greater penetration; and 100% more energy than a 12-gauge slug at 100 yards with 55% less recoil. This versatile cartridge provides deep penetration, excellent accuracy, and efficient knockdown power for medium to big game animals at mid ranges of 200 to 250 yards.
Stock options include a handsome walnut offering with matte blue metal finish and durable black synthetic stock with complementing matte blue metal finish.
Mossberg also offers the Patriot Single Shot Sled for use with all short-action calibers in Mossberg’s current lineup of Patriot bolt-action rifles. A new Illinois law went into effect on Jan. 1, 2023, and this factory-authorized single shot accessory may give deer hunters in Illinois an additional option as to using their Mossberg Patriot rifle.
The sled is designed to limit the capacity of short-action Patriot rifles to a single shot when used in place of the standard box magazine. Compliant cartridges, pursuant to Illinois Public Act 102-0932, include the following straight-walled cartridges offered in the Patriot series: 350 Legend, 450 Bushmaster, and the recently introduced 400 Legend. For spring turkey hunting, Mossberg is introducing a line of optic-ready 500 and 835 Ulti-Mag® Turkey pump-action shotguns in convenient combo packages, topped with an olive green Holosun HS407K micro dot sight. Three small bore versions of the 500 Turkey are available including a Super Bantam with adjustable length-of-pull along with a hard-hitting,12-gauge 835 Ulti-Mag version with 3.5-inch chamber. All four models feature Mossy Oak Greenleaf full camo coverage and compact 20-inch barrels.
At the core of Mossberg’s pump-action shotguns are proven design features that include non-binding twin action bars; dual extractors; a positive steel-to-steel lock-up; anti-jam elevator; anodized aluminum receiver; and universally recognized, ambidextrous top-mounted safety. Mossberg 500 Super Bantam Turkey Optic-Ready Holosun Combo 20 Gauge (54684) – This 500 Super Bantam utilizes a one-inch spacer to extend the LOP from 12 to 13 inches for a proper fit for a variety of users. Chambered in 20 gauge (3-inch), this handy pump-action features full camo coverage, a 20-inch vent rib AccuChoke-compatible barrel and comes with an Extended X-Full choke tube. The Holosun HS407K micro dot sight comes mounted to the optic cut receiver completing the combo package.
Mossberg 500 Turkey Optic-Ready Holosun Combo 410 Bore (50133) –This 410, 3-inch pump action features full Mossy Oak Greenleaf camo coverage and comes with a 20-inch vent rib, AccuChoke™– compatible barrel. An extended X-Full choke tube is included. And completing this combo is a Holosun HS407K micro dot sight.
Mossberg 500 Turkey Optic-Ready Holosun Combo 20 Gauge (54342) – This fully-camouflaged 20-gauge, 3-inch pump action has a compact 20-inch vent rib AccuChoke-compatible barrel and is equipped with an extended X-Factor Ported choke tube. With the addition of the Holosun HS407K micro dot sight, this pump-action is ready to take afield.
Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Turkey Optic-Ready Holosun Combo 12 Gauge (62230) – This full-featured 12-gauge, 3.5-inch pump action has a 20-inch overbored barrel for uniform, dense patterns and is threaded for use with AccuMag™ choke tubes. An extended Ulti-Full choke tube is included. Completing this full-camo combo is a factory-mounted Holosun HS407K micro dot sight.
Mossberg is also expanding its family of 940 Pro 12-gauge autoloading shotguns with a combo, their 18.5-inch 940 Pro Turkey Optic Ready platform with a factory-mounted Holosun HS407K micro dot sight.
At the core of the 940 Pro is a gas system that may run up to 1,500 rounds before cleaning and will cycle factory-manufactured 2.75 or 3-inch ammunition, 1 1/8 oz or greater. Internal parts (gas piston, magazine tube, hammer, and sear) feature nickel boron-coating and extra finishing for corrosion resistance and reliable performance. Features include oversized, beveled loading port with redesigned elevator and shell catch to allow for efficient and pinch-free loading into the magazine tube; barrel-making process to maintain point-of-aim and impact; slim-profile forend and self-draining stock that is user-configurable for length-of-pull (13 – 14.25 inches), drop, and cast; and oversized charging handle and paddle-style bolt release for ease of operation.
Like Mossberg’s other combo models, the 940 Pro Turkey combo features a Holosun HS407K micro dot sight mounted directly into the patent-pending optic cut on the receiver. Mossberg International is importing three Silver Reserve Eventide Turkey over-and-under shotguns in 12 gauge (3.5-inch), 20 gauge and 28 gauge with 3-inch chambers; all with compact 20-inch barrels and full camo-coverage with Mossy Oak Greenleaf.
