UPDATED– One week after the White House hosted about 100 Democrat state lawmakers and other Democrat officials from around the country to tout Joe Biden’s “Safer States” agenda, the president’s approval rating has lost even more ground, according to two different polls.
As Fox News described the latest poll numbers for Biden, “Only one-third of Americans gave President Biden a thumbs up on the job he is doing in the White House.”
The bad news comes from a new Monmouth University survey, which shows Biden with only a 34 percent job approval rating, while a formidable 61 percent of survey respondents gave him a “thumbs down” on his job performance.
As noted by Fox News, this low rating comes only two weeks after the Wall Street Journal survey gave Biden a 37 percent approval rating.
However, the popular cable network acknowledged its own poll results, released Sunday, show the president with a 43 percent approval rating.
A separate Rasmussen survey released Tuesday says only 35 percent of likely voters think Biden is doing a “good or excellent” job of handling crime, while 48 percent now give the president a failing grade. The poll revealed 60 percent of voters say violent crime in America is getting worse, which is about the same as it was in October. Only 12 percent think the crime problem is improving and 25 percent say it is about the same.
Rasmussen notes how political affiliation “clearly influences views on the crime problem.”
“Democrats (46%) are significantly less likely than Republicans (76%) to say the problem of violent crime in America is getting worse,” the polling firm stated. “Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 61% think the crime problem is getting worse.”
When asked about his declining poll numbers Sunday evening, Biden told a reporter, “You’re reading the wrong polls.”
Maybe, or maybe not. The Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Biden with a 43 percent approval rating on job performance, and a 55 percent disapproval. But Rasmussen breaks down the numbers, revealing only 26 percent of poll respondents “strongly approve” of the job he is doing, while 46 percent “strongly disapprove.” Those numbers have changed little over the past several days, and the president is left with a Presidential Approval Index rating of -20 (minus 20).
BIDEN-HARRIS SAFER STATES AGENDA
Last week, the Biden-Harris administration hosted the “Safer Streets” gathering exclusively for Democrat legislators from 39 states. TGM has twice requested a list of the lawmakers who attended, but the White House has not responded.
During the event, White House officials unveiled an eight-page “Safer States Agenda” which included the following recommendations for expanding the project to all 50 states:
- Establish a State Office of Gun Violence Prevention
- Invest in Evidence-informed Solutions to Prevent and Respond to Gun Violence
- Strengthen Support for Survivors and Victims of Gun Violence
- Reinforce Responsible Gun Ownership
- Require Safe Storage of Firearms and Make Storage Options Accessible
- Require Reporting of Lost and Stolen Firearms
- Remove Firearms from Dangerous Domestic Abusers
- Strengthen Gun Background Checks
- Hold the Gun Industry Accountable
Grassroots activists across the country, in states where legislatures will be meeting in 2024, are keeping their eyes open for any or all of these suggestions to be submitted as bills.
Democrat lawmakers from the following states were invited: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
There is no indication of a direct link between the president’s plummeting poll numbers and the introduction of his new gun control scheme.
