UPDATED: In the wake of Hunter Biden’s plea deal announcement—including his reported arrangement to have a gun felony allegation vanish from his record if he stays out of trouble for two years—there has been a deafening silence from pro-gun control Democrats and gun prohibition lobbying groups.
It’s so noticeable Fox News—but no other news network—picked up on it, and reported it.
“Prominent gun-control Democrats and advocacy groups are keeping quiet after the president’s scandal-plagued son, Hunter Biden, was charged with a gun felony Tuesday,” the network reported.
According to Fox, the network’s digital arm reached out to Reps. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.), James Clyburn (D-S.C.), Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), and Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), with no response.
Likewise, Fox News Digital reached out to prominent anti-gun groups including Giffords, Everytown for Gun Safety, Brady: United Against Gun Violence, March for Our Lives, and Moms Demand Action. Those inquiries also produced no responses.
Had Fox called the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the network would definitely have gotten a reply.
“Why should anybody respect any gun laws if the president’s son gets a pass,” CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb questioned. “The American public should be outraged at what amounts to a deplorable double standard.”
In a scathing statement released to the media, Gottlieb said the gun prohibition lobby has lost any credibility it may have ever had, and they should henceforth have zero influence on the nation’s gun policies.
He rubbed in a little salt by observing, “Looks like the biggest loophole of them all is to violate a federal gun law when you’re the president’s son.”
CCRKBA is calling Tuesday’s announcement “the Biden Loophole.”
“If Joe Biden wasn’t president,” Gottlieb said, “Hunter Biden would be heading to jail.”
CCRKBA is not alone in its criticism. The National Shooting Sports Foundation also blasted the deal, noting in a news release appearing in The Outdoor Wire, “The agreement comes at the same time the Biden administration is punishing firearm retailers by revoking licenses and terminating livelihoods for minor clerical errors with its “zero-tolerance” policy.”
“Under this administration’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy, licensed firearm retailers have had their lives destroyed for paperwork mistakes far less egregious than buying a gun when you are a crack addict,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “They are not serious about reducing gun violence, only scoring cheap political points. It is worth noting this announcement came today, after President Biden’s appearance in Hartford last Friday to call for gun control.”
