A television advertisement produced by the Second Amendment Foundation and running on more than a dozen networks to recruit membership for the “2nd Amendment First Responder” project has been scheduled to run for a third consecutive week, and is evidently hitting some raw nerves.
While the 60-second message about the threat posed to Second Amendment rights by newly-sworn President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris has been wildly popular with most viewers, some are not so favorably impressed. One vulgar message suggested SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb should commit an unnatural act while another declared, “You are inviting violence and mayhem just like your president by showing your ad. It is full of lies and I feel bad for anyone who believes your violent mission. You pray on the weak of mind and they don’t even know it. This is a pathetic and lying organization. Organization is used loosely. Take down your despicable false ad.”
Someone sent an image of a handwritten note:
But a fourth “nastygram” was something of an epic.
“Your ads claiming Biden & Harris will take away guns are grossly fabricated, perfidious lies designed to incite radical, right-wing crypto-fascist violence which IS a violation of the sedition-insurrection act,” the message asserted. “Your organization can be *charged* with violating the sedition-insurrection act & if you continue to put your outrageously false, pernicious claims on TV we will send an official complaint to the Dept. of Justice plus a possible lawsuit.
“No Democratic POTUS has *ever* taken away guns, ammo, tootsie rolls, condoms, or guava coated dildos:-) ,” the note continued. “In fact, if anyone takes away guns, it will be a RATpublican like Trump, Cruz or Johnson once they secure a right-wing dictatorship which Trump almost did. So cut the shit, the surge of pathological, radical right-wing toxin must stop, your orange demon is now out of power and hiding in his Florida bunker where he allows Russian transvestites to urinate on his micro mushroom. Stop the lies, stop the ads or the DOJ will be calling you. Get a life, eat a nice tuna sub with anchovies:-).”
Gottlieb takes it all in stride as the advertisement will be running a total of 80 times, split up among the following channels and networks through the week of Jan. 25-29: BBC America, Destination America, the Investigation Discovery Channel, American Heroes Channel, SYFY (Science Fiction), TLC (The Learning Channel) and TruTV, along with all the other channels and networks already airing the message: DirecTV, Fox News, Fox Business, CNN, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, One America News Network, CNBC, HLN, Bloomberg, Dish TV, the Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel. By the end of this third week’s run, Gottlieb said the message will have been aired 199 times to a viewing audience numbering into the millions.
“We hope America’s policy makers are paying attention to the overwhelming support we’re seeing for the right to keep and bear arms,” Gottlieb stated. “The hugely positive response we’re getting should show everyone that Biden and Harris do not have a mandate to infringe on the rights of peaceful Americans who only wish to be left alone.”
Biden’s gun control scheme, which Gottlieb and others consider “extremist,” seems to treat the right to keep and bear arms as a government-regulated privilege. The new president wants to ban so-called “assault weapons” and their original capacity magazines, and regulate the ones already owned just like fully-automatic machine guns under the National Firearms Act.
The Biden plan also hopes to convince states to adopt laws requiring licenses before private citizens can purchase firearms. If so, the Second Amendment would become the only enumerated fundamental right people could not exercise without a permission slip from the government.
Incredibly, Gottlieb argues he’s merely trying to get an alternative message to tens of millions of American gun owners. For that, people want him prosecuted, or maybe even dead.
