The Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners plans to host fundraising hunts in the coming months to promote hunting and raise funds for the organization.
David Rosenthal, Vice President and Hunt Chairman for CNJFO, talked with The Gun Mag about some upcoming hunts. One of those efforts is a hog hunt in Pennsylvania on April 23, Rosenthal said.
“As of yesterday, we had two spots available to hunt hogs,” he detailed. “They range from 250 to 300 pounds. It’s (the hunt) on a 150-acre private island in the middle of the Susquehanna river, not too far from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.”
Rosenthal explained that the private hunt is an “any weapons allowed” event, with participating hunters being able to use any weapon that will harvest a hog. Hunters are not required to have a Pennsylvania hunting license to participate. Previous hunters have used weapons such as longbow, crossbow, compound bow, handguns, shotguns, and rifles of all varieties.
Safety is evident in the planning of the event. Rosenthal explained that the hunt is a “Driven style hunt” with hunters forming a firing line that extends across the island. Hunters only fire when given permission by a guide and are never allowed in front of the line.
Rosenthal said the guide service CNJFO partners with provides field dressing of harvested hogs, a convenient service for first-time hunters, although hunters are welcome to field dress their own hogs if they prefer.
“Some hunters process their own harvest because they are deer hunters, and they are used to doing their own processing,” he said. “The average yardage for a harvest is anywhere between 15 and 25 yards.”
The cost for the hog hunt is $425 and can be reserved at the CNJFO website.
CNJFO is also sponsoring a “Hunting Pheasants with Charlie” event on March 6. Charlie Cook of “Riding Shotgun with Charlie” fame will travel to The Garden State to do a speaking engagement and participate in a pheasant hunt. The morning session sold out in three hours and the afternoon session still has 11 spaces available.
The wildlife preserve that hosts the event has three fields available for hunting, and there are five hunters and a guide in each field. Lunch is provided for each session.
The cost for the pheasant hunt is $195.
All CNJFO hunting events support their efforts to defend and advance Second Amendment rights in New Jersey.
