Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg, who spent $1 billion on his own short-lived presidential campaign last year, reportedly blew another $100 million trying to flip Florida, Ohio and Texas, according to Fox News.
In a report Friday, Fox Business observed—echoing a victory remark from South Carolina Lindsey Graham—“Mike Bloomberg didn’t get the best return on his investment to help Democratic nominee Joe Biden win key battleground states in the presidential election.”
Bloomberg, who has funded The Trace and Everytown for Gun Safety, vowed earlier this year he would spend a fortune to help flip the White House, Capitol Hill and state legislatures. While his outlay may have helped Joe Biden capture the presidency, it didn’t stop Democrats from losing positions in the House, nor did it displace Graham in the U.S. Senate, the balance of which still remains in some jeopardy.
It also didn’t prevent Trump from picking up Ohio.
Indeed, a Bloomberg adviser identified by Fox Business as Howard Wolfson, stated, “Our singular goal was electing Joe Biden. We believe that Joe Biden is going to be the next president and we believe that we were successful in terms of our efforts to help him.”
While Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, may give Bloomberg some return on his investment, he struck out in other cases. One example is the election of Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls to represent the Lone Star State’s 22nd Congressional District.
The career lawman told “Fox & Friends” Friday a major problem for Democrats was their platform to ban fracking and statements indicating support for defunding police agencies.
“The Democrats came in here, spent tons of money. They considered this a toss-up race, but, this was a battle of ideas and it was a referendum and the voters rejected the Democrats here,” Nehls said. “Quite honestly, across the entire state, they targeted 10 seats here, 10 Republican seats and they lost them all.”
Earlier in the week, the victorious Sen. Graham told supporters at a victory rally, “To all the pollsters out there, you have no idea what you’re doing. And to all the liberals in California and New York, you’re wasting a whole lot of money.”
He said the $109 million spent in the effort to replace him with Democrat challenger Jamie Harrison was “the worst return on investment in the history of American politics.”
