One of the challenges of being an owner of a firearm is making sure you are putting in the time and effort necessary at the shooting range to keep up your marksmanship and proficiency in using the weapon.
In a blog post at Winchester.com, veteran competitive shooter Becky Yackley discusses the best ways to ensure that your practice time on the range doesn’t become boring and repetitive.
She offers five key suggestions to “keep range time fresh.”
Among the ways she addresses this is by establishing overall objectives for your practice session. What is it that you want to achieve while on the range, then establish a mechanism for achieving that goal. She also, in the post, discusses expanding your overall objective – for example, if you achieve zeroing in the sights on your weapon, perhaps go ahead and test fire it at a target afterward to see how it looks in an actual firing situation. Yackley also pointed out that perhaps utilizing multiple different weapons to achieve the same goals might also help.
Additionally, she also suggests gun owners should sign up for competitive shoots. Those right now are a bit hard to come by thanks to restrictions around the country on gatherings due to the current COVID-19 disease outbreak, but once things get back to normal, competitive shoots should be available in most locations around the United States.
Yackley tackles all of these points and more in the blog post, which is on Winchester’s blog.
