When it comes to knives, DoubleStar has some new models including the Chico Diablo, made in collaboration with Kim Breed, field editor for Blade magazine. Its stainless steel blade features a smooth upswept cutting edge for skinning and a trailing point for careful work. It measures 8 inches long and 1.25-inches wide and comes with a Safe Lock sheath. The handle is made from G10.
Another entry from DoubleStar is the Pathseeker, a knife made for the bush, designed in collaboration with author, television personality and Iraq war veteran Hakim Isler. It measures 11.25 inches with a 6-inch cutting edge that is parkerized. The handle is made from G10 and it comes with a black sheath.
Browning is adding to its knife offerings with the new Wihongi Signature tactical style series to include the Wharncliffe folding model. It’s got a stainless steel blade with brushed finish and a Maori warrior tribal motif, along with G-10 scales.
The new Wihongi Signature line now includes the Tomahawk with a ¼-inch thick blade and a stonewash black metal finish also etched with the Maori motif. The handle is polymer.
In the hunting knife arena, Browning offers the Featherweight Classic fixed blade model with a drop point blade and anti-skid grooves along the spine. The blade is 9Cr stainless and the handle is checkered Zebrawod.
There’s also a new John M. Browning’s Greatest Hits knife series with a new folding model that has a 2¾-inch blade and special 1911 engraving and flipper assisted opening.
Browning’s Pursuit folder has a 2.5-inch drop point blade and checkered Zebrawood scales. It is a folding liner lock model with flipper assisted opening.
`Also new is the Speed Load Steel model with a quick-change blade design. It is a folding liner lock model with a 3-inch blade and it comes with four blades.
Bear OPS has expanded the Bold Action series of “automatic knives” with quick opening and a sliding safety. The Bold Action IX has a 2.75-inch Sandvik 14C28N stainless chromium steel blade and a white smooth bone and carbon fiber handle.
Hitting the scale at only 2.4 ounces, the Bold Action IX measures 6.5 inches OAL when open and 3.75 inches when closed. There appears to be a lanyard slot near the butt.
And there’s a new knife sharpening device from Lansky Sharpeners. The people who originated controlled-angle sharpening are now celebrating their 40th year in business by introducing the C-Sharp™ pocket sharpener.
The C-Sharp has four sharpening angles of 17, 20, 25 and 30 degrees with 600-grit ceramic hones for straight and curved blades and an 800 grit benchstone for sharpening serrated blades.
