For people who swoon over smoothbores, 2018 offers several new shotgun introductions, and once again, the emphasis appears to be on hunting and sport shooting rather than “tactical” applications.
Browning noted that its High Grade Program is in its sixth year with a limited run of Citori 725 Grade VI Field models in 12 and 20 gauge. This year’s gun features gold enhanced engraving on the silver nitride-finished receiver and a Grace V/VI walnut stock. It is available with either 26- or 28-inch barrels and comes with a canvas/distressed leather fitted case.
The new Citori 725 Golden Clays Trap gun in 12-gauge will make its debut. It features gold-accented engraving on the receiver, which has a silver nitride finish. The stock and forearm are Grace V/VI walnut with a gloss oil finish and close radius pistol grip that has a palm swell. The stock has a Pro Fit adjustable Monte Carlo comb and adjustable GraCoil recoil reduction system, along with a Graco butt pad and Pachmayr Decelerator XLT recoil pad.
Browning’s Citori CXS and CXT Adjustable Comb models are multi-purpose shotguns in 12-gauge. The CXS O/U model has a blued receiver with gold accents and the barrels have ventilated side ribs that are ported and a floating top rib. The stock and forearm are Grade II American walnut with a floss finish, adjustable comb and Schnabel style forearm. It comes with Midas Grade choke tubes and 28-, 30- or 32-inch barrel lengths.
The CXT also has a blued receiver and gold accents with a high post floating rib, ventilated side ribs and Grade II American walnut stock with adjustable comb and semi-beavertail forearm with finger grooves.
Lastly, Browning will offer the Silver Field, Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades 12-gauge semi-auto model with an aluminum alloy receiver and black/charcoal bi-tone finish. It is chambered for the 3 ½-inch 12-gauge shell and is available with 26- or 28-inch barrel.
Mossberg will offer the Model 835 Ulti-Mag with new Mossy Oak Bottomland camo finish or in basic blue both with synthetic stocks and forearms. Chambered for the 3½-inch 12-gauge, this shotgun has been around for decades. The new camo model comes with the Accu-Mag chokes and the Ulti-Full turkey tube, and a Fiber optic front sight.
The blued field model has a bead front sight and Accu-mag chokes. Barrel on both models is 26 inches.
Also from Mossberg are the Model 830 semi-autos, one in Bottomland camo with a 26-inch vent rib barrel the other in black synthetic with blue 28-inch vent rib barrel. Both versions have fiber optic front sights.
Winchester is expanding its Super-X 4 semi-auto family to include the SX4 NWTF Cantilever Turkey model. This one has a 24-inch barrel with a Weaver-style cantilever rail for mounting an electronic sight or scope.
Chambered for the 3 ½-inch 12-gauge shell, the new self-loader has a synthetic stock and forearm with a non-glare Mossy Oak Obsession camo finish, TruGlo fiber optic front sight and adjustable rear sight. It comes with an Extra-Full turkey choke tube.
Another new entry is the SX4 Cantilever Buck model chambered for 3-inch 12-gauge magnums. It’s got a 22-inch barrel with the Weaver-style cantilever rail and a matte-black non-glare finish. It also has a fiber optic front sight an adjustable rear.
Winchester’s new SX4 Universal Hunter is a 3 ½-inch 12-gauge model with synthetic stock and forearm finished in Mossy Oak Break Up Country camo. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases and it is available in three barrel lengths: 24, 26 or 28 inches.
All SX4 shotguns have length of pull spacers for adjusting the stock.
