Reader questions facts In TGM book review
Dear Editor,
The review of Mr. Weldon’s book in the October 2017 TGM makes interesting reading, raising in the process some equally interesting questions.
Re: the lack of witnesses to the activity, the young lady named Jasmine and the unnamed clerk at the scene of the action were unavailable to give testimony, which might well have avoided the wringer Mr. Weldon seemed to have been put through. I would assume, perhaps incorrectly, that the police department that was involved as well as the prosecutor would have bent considerable effort toward finding the above mentioned, yet it seems they did not. What, one wonders, might be ongoing here? Additionally, again referring to the wringer Mr. Weldon was put through, one wonders as to whether the involved police dept. and the prosecutor might be in a legally awkward position that is open to legal action/charges, civil as well as possibly criminal. People learned in the law, which I’m not, might provide answers to that question.

EDITOR’S REPLY: Maybe TGM’s review did not make it as clear as the actual The Santa Shooter’s text itself. In the book Jasmine does testify, but the clerk does not—he has disappeared. The police reports from those who did respond at the scene were confused and conflicting. What helped win the acquittal was the playing of the video with clerk’s original report of the incident, despite the objections of the prosecutor. Clearly evident in the book is the adversarial role of the prosecutor in attempting to hide or eliminate exculpatory evidence, something most defense lawyers will tell you is not uncommon in our criminal justice system. You’ll learn more about the ‘win at all costs” practices of prosecutors in an upcoming review of Sidney Powell’s book Licensed to Lie.
Big Dem publisher Never gets it right
Dear Editor,
The publisher of the Arizona Daily Sun is a big Democrat and he never gets it right.
He and his like make themselves feel good when they blame the NRA and SAF because they don’t have any answers.
The Daily Sun’s Oct. 4 editorial “Our View” entitled “More guns, as Vegas showed, don’t make America safe” is just the latest example.
Despite the fact that Sen. Feinstein, herself a leading anti-gunner, has admitted that “no laws would have prevented” the Las Vegas shooting, the Sun had a long list of new laws to advocate. They started with a “no fly, no buy rule,” then added:
Longer waiting periods for NICS “delayed” purchasers;
A ban on sales without background checks by unlicensed dealers;
A ban on the sale of “armor-piercing bullets;”
A 10-limit on all magazines;
A ban on any semi-auto that could be converted to full auto;
Provide greater access to mental health records;
Expanded restrictions on anyone with a history of domestic violence or stalking, and
More federal funds for gun ban studies by the Centers for Disease Control.
