Modern gunowners also own knives, for a variety of purposes, whether field-dressing game or as a back-up defensive weapon, or just as a day-to-day tool for all kinds of uses.
There are some dandy new blades available in 2016, all making their official debut at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas.
For starters, Spyderco is unveiling an array of new models including the C199Tip Nirvana, a folder with a 3.74-inch clip point blade and one-piece Titanium handle with pocket clip. The Para Military model has a 3.42-inch full flat grind blade and G-10 handle with pocket clip. There’s a lightweight rendition of the popular Manix folder with a 3.37-inch stainless steel blade and blue fiberglass-reinforced co-polymer handle.
Another Spyderco entry is the Proficient outdoor model with a 4-inch blade made from CPM 290V stainless. It has a carbon fiber handle with lanyard hole in the butt. It comes with a leather sheath.
New from Browning are four new fixed-blade models and three Black Label tactical folders. The Hell’s Canyon Speed model has a 3½-inch modified drop point blade and handle with carbon fiber inserts and black rubber cord wrap on the grip frame edge. The Overtime has laminated G-10 scales and a D-2 high carbon steel 3-3/8-inch blade, while the Incase drop point has a 440 stainless steel blade and full tang handle with sculpted G-10 scales.
Browning’s Stacked Deck frame lock folder has a 3½-inch VG10 stainless blade with either a modified spear point or tactical design. Handles are machined and sculpted matte titanium. The Speed Dial Pocket Deploy folder has a Tanto style blade with assisted opening via a patented SNAG system by KRUDO knives. The Pandemonium has a modified 440 stainless hollow ground Tanto blade, full auto opening, a thumb stud and checkered black G-10 scales.
Kershaw’s new Shield features SpeedSafe assisted opening, a frame lock with hardened steel lockbar insert and a stainless steel blade with a satin finish. The handle is 410 with a titanium carbo-nitride coating. The new Zero Tolerance folder is from Kershaw’s sister brand features the Zero Tolerance KVT ball bearing system. It has a premium crucible S35VN stainless steel blade and a titanium handle with a frame lock and hardened steel lock bar insert.
Lansky Sharpeners’ new pocket-size Quadsharp™ portable sharpener features the same 4-angles as the famous controlled-angle kit for perfect, precising blade case in the field. From Coast Cutlery comes the DX200 Pro Razor utility knife with a replaceable razor blade cutter that folds back into the handle, which is made from textured non-slip weather proof material, and the knife has a liner lock.
Two new hunting knives are coming from Ontario Knife, the Drop Point Hunter and the Trailing Point Hunter. Both models feature 4.19-inch D2 steel blades with full-tang wood handles.
