There’s quite a lineup of new riflescopes, binoculars and spotters from some of the top names in the firearm optics industry for 2016.
For example, Nikon recently announced six new riflescopes with what they call a “BDC Distance Lock.” This is a function located in the first focal plane that allows the riflescope to maintain its scale and distance proportion on a target throughout the entire magnification range, according to Nikon. The six scope models include three Monarch 3 versions in 3-12x42mm, 4-16x42mm and 4-16x50mm, plus three ProStaff5 variations in 3.5-14x40mm, 3.5-14x50mm and 4.5-18x40mm.
Steiner has announced a new Miniscope, an 8x22mm monocular that is small enough to fit in a pocket. It features Steiner’s Sports-Auto Focus system, yet it hits the scale at a scant 2.8 ounces. It features high contrast lens coatings and an ergonomic design.
Relatively new to the optics business, Sig Sauer has announced several new products including range finders, spotting scopes, riflescopes and binoculars. The lineup includes the hand-held OSCAR 3 mini spotter with a Sig Optic Stabilizer. Included in the riflescope introductions are the Whiskey3 models with low dispersion glass and Whiskey5 scopes with proprietary HDX optics. Sig Sauer’s Zulu binocular series includes four models including compacts and full-size models.
Leupold’s VX-3i updated scope features the new Twilight Max Light Management System. There are models ranging from 1.5-5X to 8.5-25X, featuring Diamondcoat 2 on the lenses and ¼-MOA adjustments. There’s also a Leupold VX-3i model in 3.5-10x40mm, with a Duplex reticle. Also from Leupold is the BX-3 Mojave Pro Guide HD 10x50mm center focus binocular.
In the high end arena, Swarovski Optik has announced the X5(i) riflescope with an illuminated reticle featuring ten brightness settings. Designed for long range shooting, this model features newly-designed turrets that offer 20 MOA adjustments per revolution, in ¼-MOA increments, a total of 116 MOA elevation adjustments. There are two scopes in the line, a 3.5-18x50mm and a 5-25x56mm, both built on 30mm tubes.
Meopta’s new MeoPro 8×56 HD center-focus binocular has a 314-foot field of view at 1,000 yards. The binocular features twist-up eye cups with four click-stop positions to accommodate eyeglass users and the external lenses are treated with MeoShield, an abrasion-resistant coating.
It has a rubber armor exterior in a lightweight magnesium chassis.
Weaver will be introducing a new scope at the SHOT Show, but no details were available at press time.
There are several tactical scopes from Valdada Optics including the 16x56mm Tactical Scope 14, built on a hefty 35mm alloy tube. Weighing 1.6 pounds, it features an adjustable eyepiece, parallax side focus and new exposed tactical turrets with 100 clicks per revolution. This is the scope recommended for the .338 Lapua, .375 Cheytac, .408 Cheytac and .50 BMG.
